US intelligence warned Iran war could widen with China, Russia support

US intelligence warned days after the US-Israeli war on Iran began that the conflict could widen, citing indications that China was considering supplying advanced radar systems to Tehran and that Russia had shared intelligence on US military positions in the Middle East.
US intelligence agencies warned shortly after the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran that the conflict could expand, according to a CBS News report on Thursday. Officials told CBS that analysts at the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency assessed that China was considering supplying Iran with advanced radar systems, including X-band radar technology that could improve Tehran’s ability to detect low-flying drones and cruise missiles.
Russia reportedly shared US military intelligence
The report stated that US officials also said Russia had shared intelligence on American military positions in the Middle East. It was not immediately clear whether any radar transfers from China had taken place, but the assessment reflected growing US concern that global powers could offer indirect military support to Iran, potentially widening the conflict.
Stabilization efforts ongoing
The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28, prompting retaliatory attacks and escalating regional tensions. Efforts to stabilize the situation and pursue a lasting ceasefire are reportedly ongoing, with Pakistan mediating between Washington and Tehran. A fragile two-week ceasefire currently holds until April 22.
