The United States has deployed additional Patriot and THAAD missile defense systems to the Middle East to protect its forces, according to a report. The move follows intelligence assessments suggesting the Iranian government is facing unprecedented internal instability due to prolonged protests and economic crisis.

The United States is bolstering its defensive posture in the Middle East with the deployment of advanced air and missile defense systems, a move reportedly driven by concerns over Iran's internal stability. The reinforcements aim to shield American troops from potential retaliatory strikes as Washington monitors political unrest in Tehran.

Deployment of defensive and offensive assets

According to a report by The New York Times, the Pentagon has moved additional Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) systems to the region. This defensive buildup is complemented by the deployment of extra F-15E strike aircraft and placing long-range bombers on heightened alert. US officials stated the measures are precautionary, intended to protect forces from Iranian retaliation.

Intelligence assessments of Iranian weakness

The deployments are linked to intelligence reviews presented to President Donald Trump, which indicate the Iranian government's grip on power may be at its weakest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Protests that began late last year have reportedly spread to regions traditionally considered strongholds of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, amid a severe economic collapse.

Official statements and calls for regime change

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the president is "consistently briefed" on intelligence regarding Iran and "continues to closely monitor the situation." Trump has previously described the US naval presence in the region as an "armada" and warned that military action remains an option. Senator Lindsey Graham, who recently discussed Iran with Trump, openly advocated for stronger action, stating, "The goal is to end the regime."
