US says 62 commercial vessels redirected under Iran naval blockade

US Central Command said on Monday that 62 commercial vessels have been redirected and four disabled under a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic, as regional tensions persist in the Strait of Hormuz following weeks of conflict between Washington and Tehran.
US Central Command on Monday said that 62 commercial vessels attempting to access Iranian ports have been redirected under a naval blockade targeting Tehran's maritime traffic, with four additional ships disabled to ensure compliance with enforcement measures.
CENTCOM detailed the operations in a post on the social media platform X, noting that the USS Delbert D. Black (DDG 119) is currently monitoring regional waters in the Arabian Sea. "CENTCOM forces have redirected 62 commercial ships and disabled 4 to ensure compliance," the command stated, adding that the destroyer remains deployed to enforce the blockade.
Strait of Hormuz closure
Regional tensions escalated sharply after Washington and Tel Aviv launched military strikes against Iran, prompting Iranian retaliation against Israel and American allies in the Gulf. The conflict led to the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz — a vital chokepoint for global oil shipments — before a ceasefire took effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, though subsequent negotiations in Islamabad failed to produce a permanent agreement.

US President Donald Trump later announced an extension of the truce without setting a deadline for permanent resolution. The US has maintained the naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the strait since April 13, according to military statements.
