In a striking podcast interview, US Vice President JD Vance has openly criticised Israeli influence over American politics, alleging covert campaigns against Iran diplomacy and exposing deep Epstein connections. His remarks signal a notable shift in Washington's bipartisan stance, with the White House confirming President Trump shares his view.

US Vice President JD Vance has delivered some of his most candid remarks to date on Israeli influence in American politics, appearing on Joe Rogan's widely followed YouTube podcast. He alleged that Tel Aviv maintains a concealed and well-financed operation aimed at derailing US-Iran negotiations, while also pointing to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein's intricate links to Israeli political circles. The intervention marks a departure from conventional Washington discourse, placing the administration at odds with longstanding pro-Israel advocacy groups.

Allegations of foreign interference

During the broadcast, Vance asserted that foreign governments consistently seek to steer US foreign policy, but stressed that the real concern lies with American officials permitting such pressure to shape their decisions. He stated: "Foreign governments are constantly trying to influence the United States. Israel does it, other countries do it, that's the nature of the game. What bothers me is Americans—leading figures in US politics—letting that influence affect their judgment." He further claimed that a "very secret, extremely well-funded campaign" exists to undermine any potential accord with Tehran, adding that some within the Israeli government actively oppose diplomatic solutions.

Epstein ties and domestic fractures

Turning to the Epstein case, Vance noted that while he has seen no credible evidence of wrongdoing by the president, he acknowledged US authorities mishandled the investigation. He characterised Epstein as having "very deep connections" with Israel's centre-left political spectrum rather than its centre-right, a distinction he found noteworthy. Vance also observed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu currently enjoys limited popularity in the United States. These comments come amid growing bipartisan unease on Capitol Hill, where 103 House Democrats recently voted to cut the annual $3.3 billion military aid package to Israel—a move that underscores shifting voter sentiment.

White House endorsement and regional context

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump concurs with Vance's assessment, telling reporters: "The president absolutely agrees. Yes, foreign countries are absolutely trying to influence American public opinion—there is no doubt about that." Meanwhile, Vance reiterated that while Israel remains a key ally akin to France or Britain, Washington must pursue its own national interests, particularly regarding Gulf maritime security and energy routes. He emphasised that military force and diplomacy both remain viable options, though certain actors appear to prefer prolonged conflict over negotiation.
