Venezuela seeks OPEC support against us military threat to oil

President Nicolas Maduro has called on OPEC and its member states to collectively oppose what he describes as US aggression, including threats to seize Venezuela's oil reserves by military force. The appeal warns that such actions endanger global market stability.
Venezuela has formally requested that OPEC and its member nations unite against what it characterizes as US aggression, specifically denouncing threats to confiscate its substantial oil reserves through military action. The call for support was made in a letter from President Nicolas Maduro to OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais, which Foreign Minister Yvan Gil publicized via Telegram.
Denouncing a "Mechanism of Force"
In his correspondence, President Maduro stated that Venezuela "will remain firm" in defending its natural resources. He detailed that his government denounces the mechanism through which the US intends to take the country's oil by using "lethal military force" against its territory and institutions. Maduro asserted that this US intention violates international norms of peaceful coexistence and poses a direct threat to the stability of Venezuelan oil production and, by extension, the international energy market.
A Pattern of Intervention and a Vow of Resistance
The Venezuelan leader reminded the international community of the "harmful consequences" of previous US military interventions in other oil-producing nations. He emphasized that Venezuela would not "succumb to any type of blackmail or threat" from Washington. The letter expressed hope that OPEC members would work together to halt this aggression, which he said seriously jeopardizes the balance of the energy market for both producers and consumers worldwide.
Escalating Military Posture in the Region
This diplomatic appeal follows a recent warning from US President Donald Trump that Venezuelan airspace would be "completely shut down," a statement that prompted Caracas to demand "unconditional respect." The exchange occurs amid a months-long expansion of US military operations across Latin America, involving the deployment of Marines, warships, and aircraft. This buildup has fueled speculation about a potential attack, with President Trump announcing further action against Venezuelan drug traffickers on land following numerous maritime military operations.
