West Bank village recounts illegal settler attack under army protection

A Palestinian from al-Mughayir village near Ramallah described a coordinated attack by dozens of Israeli settlers who damaged homes and burned vehicles while accompanied by Israeli forces. The incident reflects a broader pattern of settler violence documented across the occupied West Bank.

A Palestinian resident of al-Mughayir village in the occupied West Bank has recounted a violent assault by dozens of illegal Israeli settlers that targeted homes and vehicles under the protection of Israeli forces. The incident, which took place near Ramallah, is a systematic pattern of attacks carried out with coordination between Israeli illegal settlers and the military.

Night of Violence in al-Mughayir

Mohammad Abu Alya, a resident of the village, stated that approximately 50 settlers stormed his property, destroyed gates and doors, and set fire to four vehicles belonging to his family. He reported alerting other villagers, who subsequently intervened and pushed the attackers back toward a nearby settlement. Local sources also noted that another home and a farm were targeted in the same raid, while Israeli soldiers fired tear gas and sound grenades during clashes.

Settler Attacks Becoming Systematic

Abu Alya emphasized that this was not an isolated event, recalling that 18 vehicles were burned in the same village last year. He described the assaults on al-Mughayir as increasingly “daily, systematic, and coordinated between the army and the settlers.” Official data from the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission recorded 7,154 settler attacks over two years, leading to 33 Palestinian fatalities and the forced displacement of dozens of Bedouin communities.

Broader Context of West Bank Violence

Since the military offensive and genocide on Gaza began two years ago, more than 1,057 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, with over 10,300 injured and 20,000 detained—including 1,600 children. In a historic ruling last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation illegal and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
