Xi Jinping Pledges $10M to UN Fund Calls for Global Women’s Empowerment

China’s President Xi Jinping on Monday urged world leaders to expand joint efforts in supporting women’s empowerment and gender equality. Speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, Xi marked the 30th anniversary of the landmark Fourth World Conference on Women, originally held in the Chinese capital in 1995.

In his address, Xi described the development of women as a “shared duty of the international community” and underlined the need for practical cooperation to remove persistent inequalities. “We should build a broader consensus and take concrete actions for the advancement of women,” Xi said, as reported by state media.

To reinforce these goals, Xi announced a $10 million contribution to UN Women, alongside a pledge to allocate $100 million from China’s Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for joint projects advancing women’s and girls’ welfare. The president also revealed plans to launch 1,000 community-level livelihood programs for women and girls, naming them priority beneficiaries over the next five years.

As part of the broader vision, Xi said China would host 50,000 women for exchange and training programs and establish a new international center dedicated to women’s capacity-building. The initiative aims to cultivate female professionals in cooperation with relevant international organizations and partner countries, reinforcing China’s positioning as an active player in global gender equality governance.
