Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a critical period of rising tensions in the Middle East. The visit underscores growing China–UAE cooperation as regional instability intensifies following recent military escalation involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Chinese President Xi Jinping met Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Beijing on Tuesday, as China and the United Arab Emirates seek to strengthen ties amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

High-level visit amid regional crisis

The UAE crown prince arrived in China earlier this week for a three-day official visit, focusing on expanding bilateral relations. The trip comes at a time of heightened instability following joint military operations by the United States and Israel targeting Iran, which have significantly raised tensions across the region.

Rising tensions across the Middle East

In response to those attacks, Iran has launched missile and drone strikes affecting multiple country across the region, including Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military facilities. The widening scope of the conflict has increased concerns over regional security, energy routes, and global economic stability—issues closely monitored by countries such as Türkiye.

Economic ties remain strong

Despite geopolitical risks, economic cooperation between Beijing and Abu Dhabi continues to expand. Trade between China and the United Arab Emirates reached approximately $76.9 billion during the first nine months of 2025, reflecting deepening commercial ties in energy, infrastructure, and technology sectors.

Strategic implications

Analysts suggest that China’s engagement with Gulf countries, including the UAE, highlights Beijing’s growing role in Middle East diplomacy and economic integration. Strengthened partnerships may influence regional alignments and global trade routes, particularly as crisis continues to evolve.
