Russia: 53 Turkish companies may hire Turks

Russia on Wednesday published a list of Turkish companies that will be permitted to employ Turkish nationals after Jan. 1, 2016, the Russian government said on its website on Wednesday.

Under the terms of sanctions against Turkey, most Turkish companies operating in Russia may no longer hire Turkish citizens.

Economic sanctions against Turkey were first imposed after Nov. 24, when Turkish forces shot down a Russian fighter that had violated Turkish airspace despite repeated warnings.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Dec. 24 signed a decree which listed Turkish companies permitted to hire Turks.

But the names of these Turkish companies were not made public at the time; these were announced on Wednesday. The government also said that the list was drafted in consideration of suggestions from federal and regional executive authorities of the Russian Federation.

The list includes 53 companies and organizations based in the republics of Bashkortostan, Crimea, Tatarstan, Krasnodar Territory, Vladimir, Kaluga, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Tyumen regions, Moscow, St Petersburg and Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area.

According to Russian government, the 53 Turkish companies are involved in the following sectors: Construction, automobiles, construction materials, polymeric tubes and fittings, plumbing equipment and flooring.

The Russian government also announced a list of specific works that cannot be performed in Russia by organizations under Turkish jurisdiction, as well as by organizations controlled by Turkish citizens and (or) organisations under Turkish jurisdiction, from next year.

The list includes the following: Construction of buildings and engineering structures, architectural projects and engineering-technical designs, research and analysis, the activities of travel agencies, hotel activities, the execution of works and the provision of services for state and municipal needs and timber processing.
