US will 'gain nothing' from sanctions: Iranian president
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that Washington will achieve no objectives through economic coercion, vowing that Tehran will stand firm against the Trump administration's sweeping new sanctions campaign targeting the Islamic Republic's financial and commercial lifelines.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told senior economic officials on Tuesday that Washington will achieve none of its objectives through economic pressure, declaring that Tehran will continue to resist American sanctions amid a sweeping new campaign by the Trump administration. Speaking during a three-hour meeting at the Central Bank of Iran with Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati and economists, Pezeshkian reviewed monetary indicators under conditions he described as war, economic blockade and external pressure.

"Our approach is understanding and resolving issues through interaction and negotiation, but at the same time, we have stood and will continue to stand firmly against economic pressure," Pezeshkian said. He argued that Washington would similarly "gain nothing" from its current campaign, noting that the US failed to achieve its goals during the war due to the resistance of Iran's armed forces and public support.

US launches 'Operation Economic Outcast'

The Trump administration on Monday launched "Operation Economic Outcast," a sanctions campaign targeting key Iranian economic sectors including aviation, shipping, gold, technology and digital assets. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the measures blacklisted more than 60 entities, individuals and vessels, stating that Washington's objective was to sever Iran's economic lifelines and describing the campaign as the "economic asphyxiation" of the Iranian government.

Pezeshkian stressed the need to maintain economic stability and contain inflation expectations, saying that managing key markets required close coordination between the government, Central Bank and other economic institutions. The meeting reviewed Iran's foreign exchange and financial indicators as the Iranian president emphasized unified action among state economic bodies to counter external pressure.
