Zeynep Sonmez retires from Roland Garros doubles after courtside fall

Zeynep Sonmez was forced to retire from the French Open doubles competition after suffering an injury when she tripped over a courtside advertising board during her second-round match at Roland Garros, compounding a disappointing tournament following her first-round singles exit.
Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez was forced to retire from the French Open women's doubles competition on Friday after suffering an injury when she tripped over a courtside advertising board during her second-round match at Roland Garros in Paris.
Courtside accident
The incident occurred early in the contest with Sonmez trailing 2-0 in the opening set. Chasing a ball near the baseline, she tripped over the advertising hoarding and fell to the ground, immediately clutching her injured limb.
Medical staff rushed to treat the Turkish player on court alongside her German partner Tatjana Maria. Despite their efforts, Sonmez was unable to continue and the pair formally retired from the match, ending their campaign at the clay-court Grand Slam.
