The National Defense Ministry on Thursday welcomed the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces and its integration into Syrian state institutions as a crucial step for preserving Syria's sovereignty, vowing that the Turkish Armed Forces will continue supporting Damascus under existing military cooperation agreements to ensure lasting stability and combat terrorism.

Türkiye's National Defense Ministry on Thursday welcomed the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and its integration into Syrian state institutions, describing the move as vital for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity and upholding the principle of "one state, one army."

Dissolution welcomed

Speaking during a weekly press briefing in Afyonkarahisar province, ministry officials said the integration represents an important milestone for Syria's future. The move strengthens the principle of "one state, one army," the ministry noted, emphasizing that preserving Syria's territorial integrity remains a priority for Ankara.

Military support

The ministry affirmed that Turkish Armed Forces will maintain their support for Damascus within the framework of the existing military cooperation agreement. "Our Turkish Armed Forces will continue their support, within the framework of the existing military cooperation agreement, to help extend the positive momentum achieved in Syria across the country, ensure lasting stability and strengthen the capabilities of the Syrian army, particularly in the fight against terrorism," it said.

Regional tensions

Ankara also addressed broader security challenges, stating that it is closely monitoring Israeli attacks on Syria and demanding their immediate cessation. The ministry added that it is following US efforts to establish a de-escalation mechanism that would include Syria, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency.
