Türkiye hails SDF dissolution as key to Syrian stability

Türkiye's Communications Director Burhanettin Duran on Wednesday hailed the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces as a critical step toward strengthening state authority nationwide and fostering an inclusive political process in Damascus. Speaking on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Duran described the move as "an important development" for reunifying state institutions and bringing disparate sectors of society onto common political ground. He stressed that "only the will of the Syrian people should shape Syria's future," adding that inclusive governance holds "great importance" for achieving lasting stability.

Longstanding opposition to division

Since the onset of the Syrian crisis, Ankara has maintained what Duran called "a principled and determined stance" against attempts by terrorist organizations and external actors to partition the country. This approach has been pursued under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has consistently opposed foreign interventions that undermine Syrian territorial integrity. Duran noted that Damascus' continued commitment to inclusivity remains essential for securing peace across the war-torn nation.

Vision for terrorism-free region

Duran outlined Türkiye's vision of a "Terrorism-Free Türkiye" and a "Terrorism-Free Region," emphasizing the need for a regional order where ethnic and sectarian differences are not weaponized and where borders and sovereignty remain inviolable. "Türkiye will continue to support Syria's recovery and the Syrian people living in peace and prosperity with all sectors of society against dirty calculations and scenarios," he said. Ankara views the SDF's disbandment as integral to preventing terrorist organizations from maintaining influence over Syrian territory.
