The Kremlin has acknowledged Türkiye's ongoing diplomatic role in seeking to resolve the Ukraine conflict, stating Russia is "grateful" for Ankara's mediation. This follows a phone conversation between Presidents Putin and Erdoğan where peace initiatives were discussed.

The Kremlin has publicly expressed appreciation for Türkiye's continued diplomatic efforts to help end the war in Ukraine. During a press briefing on Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is "grateful to our Turkish friends" for their mediation services and confirmed Moscow's readiness to "provide all the conditions for continuing the negotiation process."

High-Level Diplomatic Engagement

Peskov's remarks came a day after a significant phone discussion between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The two leaders addressed the ongoing conflict, now in its fourth year, along with other pressing regional and international matters. According to readouts from the conversation, the Ukraine war and pathways to peace featured prominently in their exchange.

Türkiye's Persistent Peace Brokerage

The Turkish Communications Directorate reported that President Erdoğan reiterated Ankara's commitment to efforts that would secure a "just and lasting peace." He emphasized that Türkiye stands ready to contribute to diplomatic initiatives that could facilitate direct contact between the warring parties and help establish the foundation for a sustainable resolution. Türkiye has positioned itself as a key neutral mediator since the early stages of the conflict, most notably by hosting several rounds of peace talks in Istanbul this year that yielded significant prisoner exchanges and progress on draft peace memoranda.
