Türkiye condemns deadly bombing in Syria’s Damascus

Türkiye has strongly condemned a bomb attack in central Damascus that killed at least six people and injured 22. Ankara reaffirmed its support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, expressing confidence that the Syrian people will maintain unity against attempts to undermine stability.
Türkiye on Thursday strongly condemned a deadly attack in Damascus, Syria, with senior officials reaffirming support for the Syrian government and people. “We strongly condemn the attack carried out today (July 2) in the Hijaz area of Syria’s capital, Damascus, which caused fatalities,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The ministry extended condolences to the families of those killed and the Syrian people, and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.
Political solidarity
The ministry said Türkiye remains confident that “the best response to such attempts, which aim to undermine the progress made toward establishing sustainable stability and security in Syria and to disrupt social peace, will once again be given by the Syrian people by maintaining their unity and solidarity.” Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz also condemned the attack, saying those responsible for terrorism and those backing them are “doomed to lose.” Communications Director Burhanettin Duran described the blast as a “heinous terrorist attack” targeting civilians and seeking to undermine efforts to restore security and stability.
Attack details
At least six people were killed and 22 others injured in a bomb explosion at a cafe in central Damascus on Thursday, according to the Syrian Health Ministry. Alikhbariah TV reported that the blast was caused by an explosive device planted inside the cafe on Al‑Nasr Street, near the Justice Palace. No group has yet claimed responsibility. For Türkiye, which has been actively engaged in Syria’s post‑Assad transition and reconstruction, the attack underscores the fragility of the security environment. Ankara has called for continued international support for Syria’s stabilisation.
