Türkiye will unveil its new next‑generation military headquarters, the Ay Yıldız (Crescent and Star) Joint Headquarters, during next week’s NATO summit in Ankara. Designed to centralise the country’s top defence institutions, the complex will host visiting defence ministers and senior NATO officials as part of the July 7‑8 summit.
Consolidated command structure
The Ay Yıldız Headquarters brings together the National Defence Ministry, the General Staff, and the Land, Naval, and Air Forces commands in a single location, strengthening joint operational capabilities. Inspired by the crescent and star of the Turkish flag, the complex features a smart building concept, environmentally friendly design, and advanced technological infrastructure. It is equipped with cybersecurity, ballistic protection, CBRN defences, and measures aligned with the “Steel Dome” concept.
First official event
The headquarters, which recently opened its doors to journalists, will host its first official event during the NATO summit. A reception for visiting defence ministers and senior officials is planned in the “Star” section of the complex. The project embodies Türkiye’s defence vision under the “Century of Türkiye” goals and is expected to become a model military headquarters worldwide.
