Türkiye pledges Gaza reconstruction aid, urges lasting two-state solution

At the UN Security Council, Türkiye's deputy envoy welcomed the Gaza ceasefire as "long-overdue" and pledged substantial humanitarian and reconstruction assistance. Ankara emphasized that lasting peace requires a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as Palestine's capital.
Türkiye has welcomed the implementation of a Gaza ceasefire while committing to substantial humanitarian and reconstruction assistance for the devastated territory. During a UN Security Council session on Palestine, Deputy Permanent Representative Asli Guven characterized the truce as "long-overdue and hard-achieved" and urged the international community to prioritize preserving the agreement.
Immediate Priorities and Regional Stability
Guven emphasized that the "foremost priority must be to preserve this ceasefire at all costs," calling for prevention of violations and an end to settler violence in the West Bank. She warned that regional stability requires cessation of "attacks and destabilizing policies towards Lebanon, Syria, and the broader region," noting that "the Middle East cannot endure a persistent cycle of prolonged warfare" and advocating diplomatic solutions over military confrontation.
Humanitarian Assistance and Reconstruction
The Turkish diplomat identified uninterrupted humanitarian aid delivery and immediate reconstruction as critical second-phase priorities, emphasizing coordination with UN agencies including UNRWA. "Türkiye will continue to provide substantial humanitarian assistance to Gaza and stand ready to contribute to reconstruction efforts," Guven stated, outlining Ankara's commitment to working with the international community on Gaza's recovery.
Political Solution and Two-State Framework
Guven stressed that lasting peace requires defining post-conflict arrangements including Gaza's governance structure and an international stabilization force. She reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as Palestine's capital, stating "lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through a political solution based on the two-state vision." Türkiye pledged continued active support throughout the ceasefire implementation phases.
