Türkiye provides advanced broadcasting equipment to Somali national media

Türkiye has donated sophisticated cameras and live broadcast systems to strengthen Somalia's national media capabilities through its development agency TIKA. Somali officials expressed gratitude for Ankara's consistent support during an equipment handover ceremony in Mogadishu.
Türkiye has enhanced Somalia's media infrastructure through the donation of advanced broadcasting equipment, including sophisticated cameras and live transmission systems, to the country's national media outlets. The technical assistance was formally transferred during a ceremony in Mogadishu on Sunday, where Turkish Ambassador Alper Aktaş presented the equipment to Somali Information Minister Daud Aweis.
Strengthening Media Capabilities
The state-of-the-art broadcasting technology is designed to significantly upgrade various departments within Somalia's national media infrastructure. Minister Aweis emphasized that the equipment would provide "a crucial boost to the government's communication and public broadcasting capabilities," enabling more effective public information dissemination and enhancing media production quality for Somali National Television, which operates under the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
Bilateral Cooperation and Gratitude
The handover ceremony included participation from Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) coordinator Zafer Eski and other officials from both nations. Minister Aweis specifically thanked the Turkish government and TIKA for their "consistent and unwavering support to Somalia," noting that the enhanced media capabilities would help advance critical national agendas through improved communication channels and technical capacity.
Historical Context and Development Partnership
The equipment donation continues Türkiye's extensive development partnership with Somalia, which began in 2011 when President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan became the first non-African leader to visit the country in over two decades. Since then, TIKA has implemented more than 500 development projects across Somalia in sectors including healthcare, agriculture, education, and infrastructure, with total Turkish assistance exceeding $1 billion.
