Emerging US-Iran deal meets none of Israel's war goals: Ex-PM

Opposition leader Yair Lapid said Saturday that the emerging US-Iran agreement represents a "complete failure" for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning that the deal would leave Iran's government and missile program intact while allowing Tehran to rebuild its nuclear capabilities and reducing Israel to a "satellite state" taking orders on national security.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Saturday criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the emerging US-Iran agreement, declaring that the deal fails to achieve any of Israel's stated war objectives and turns the Jewish state into a satellite state that takes instructions on national security from Washington.
Opposition leader blasts 'complete failure'
Writing on the US social media platform X, Lapid stated: "The agreement currently taking shape does not achieve any of Israel's war objectives." He noted that the Iranian government would remain in power, its missile program would continue and Tehran would be able to rebuild its nuclear program, describing the outcome as "Netanyahu's complete failure."
Lapid said the situation turned Israel into a satellite state that takes instructions on its national security, adding that "no press conference, media manipulation, or AI-generated video can hide this failure."
Security officials alarmed
Israeli political and security officials have expressed mounting concern regarding the agreement reportedly nearing completion between Washington and Tehran. Officials believe the deal would strengthen the Iranian government and limit Israel's military operations in Lebanon, according to Israel's i24 News. The worries come as diplomatic efforts intensify to end the war that began in late February when the US and Israel launched military action against the Islamic Republic.
