'Two states for two peoples' is still the 'only solution,' Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul says at UN General Assembly

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, during his address to the UN General Assembly on Saturday, reiterated an "urgent call" on Israel to allow safe humanitarian access into the Gaza Strip.

"We repeat our urgent call on Israel to allow safe humanitarian access," Wadephul said, reaffirming Germany's commitment to providing aid through partners such as the UN to reach those in greatest need.

He said justice requires every human being to have access to food, clean water, education, and healthcare.

"The terrible war in Gaza is raging on, hell on earth, a humanitarian nightmare as we speak. This war must end. The hostages must be released," he said.

He stressed the need for a future, peace, and dignity for all in the Middle East, asserting that "two states for two peoples" is still the "only solution."

The worst humanitarian disaster of our time is unfolding in Sudan and its neighbors. Over 30 million people are in need of humanitarian aid. More than 12 million people were forced to flee their homes, he said, stressing, "We all need to do more to end this tragedy.

Wadephul went on to say that the entire region's security is at risk.

Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon because it does "not comply" with its obligations under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he said.

"We had no choice but to trigger the snapback of sanctions. Following a clear vote by the Security Council yesterday, the sanctions will take effect later today. But let me emphasize, we remain open to negotiations on a new agreement. Diplomacy can and should continue," he then clarified.
