Yemen's Houthis threaten to target Israeli presence in Somaliland

The leader of Yemen's Houthi group, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, has declared that any Israeli presence in Somaliland would be considered a legitimate military target for his forces. The warning came in response to Israel's recent recognition of the breakaway Somali region.
Condemnation of Israel's "hostile act"
In a written statement Sunday, al-Houthi condemned Israel's move as a "hostile act" lacking legal or political validity. He argued the recognition targets not only Somalia but also neighboring African nations, Yemen, and all countries bordering the strategically vital Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Accusations of regional destabilization
The Houthi leader accused Israel of aiming to transform Somaliland into a base for operations against Somalia, Africa, and the Arab world, posing a direct threat to regional security. He vowed "unshakable" support for the Somali people, stating, "This includes considering any Israeli presence in Somaliland a military target for our armed forces."
Call for broader Islamic world response
Al-Houthi called on nations bordering the Red Sea and the broader Arab and Islamic world to take concrete steps to prevent what he described as a violation of Somali sovereignty. The Iran-aligned group has been engaged in a prolonged conflict, frequently attacking maritime targets it associates with Israel in the Red Sea.
