Iran says final decision on US memorandum still under review

Tehran has not announced its final decision on a proposed memorandum of understanding with Washington, with a source telling Iranian media that political and technical reviews are ongoing despite US President Donald Trump's assertion that a deal would be signed Sunday.
Tehran has not finalized its position on a proposed memorandum of understanding with Washington, a source familiar with the negotiations told Fars News Agency on Sunday, adding that political and technical aspects of the deal remain under review despite assertions from the White House that an agreement was imminent.
Review ongoing
"Iran has not yet announced its final decision on the proposed memorandum of understanding," the source told the outlet. "The review of the political, legal, and technical dimensions of the proposals is still ongoing," he added.
Conflicting timelines
US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday that a deal with Iran was scheduled to be signed on Sunday. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country has been mediating between Washington and Tehran, also said the agreement could be finalized within 24 hours, though Iranian officials rejected the Sunday timeline and stated the agreement would not be signed on that date but may be inked in the coming days.
Talks focus
The Pakistan-mediated diplomatic process has focused on ending hostilities between Tehran and Washington, reopening the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic and reaching a consensus on Iran's nuclear program. Iranian officials have repeatedly said a large portion of the proposed text has already been agreed upon, while accusing the US of slowing progress through shifting positions and contradictory statements.
