Israel shells Gaza school, wounds five displaced Palestinians

Israeli artillery struck Abu Hussein School in Jabalia refugee camp early Friday, wounding five displaced Palestinians and damaging one of the few remaining shelters in the north as violations of the October ceasefire agreement continue across the besieged enclave.
Israeli artillery wounded five Palestinians early Friday after striking Abu Hussein School in the Jabalia refugee camp, where hundreds of displaced families have sought shelter since the start of the war. Ambulance crews transported the injured from the scene following the dawn strike, a source at Gaza’s Interior Ministry medical services said.
School Shelled in Northern Gaza
The source did not provide details on the severity of the injuries sustained in the attack, which reduced parts of the school to rubble and sent shockwaves through the surrounding area. The facility had been serving as one of the few remaining operational shelters in the northern Gaza Strip for families repeatedly displaced by the fourteen-month war.
Violations Spread Across Territory
In Gaza City, Israeli drones opened heavy fire and dropped explosive devices around the Sanafour junction in the Tuffah neighborhood, witnesses told Anadolu. The Israeli military also issued evacuation warnings before destroying two homes belonging to the al-Aidi and al-Khamisi families in the Maghazi refugee camp of central Gaza, completely demolishing the structures and damaging dozens of nearby houses.
An Israeli warplane targeted land adjacent to a residential building in Deir al-Balah, causing severe damage to surrounding structures though no casualties were reported, medical sources said. In Khan Younis, southern Gaza, the army carried out two demolitions of homes and civilian structures in the city’s eastern areas, with explosions heard across wide areas of the territory, according to witnesses.
Casualties Mount as War Continues
The ceasefire agreement announced on October 10 has witnessed continued violations by Israeli forces, killing at least 981 Palestinians according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Since Israel launched its military offensive on October 8, 2023, approximately 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 173,000 wounded, while widespread destruction has damaged 90% of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians are living in tents and temporary shelters across Gaza after the war destroyed their homes or left them severely damaged. The repeated displacement has left families in camps that lack basic necessities and essential services as winter approaches.
