Israeli strikes kill eight in Lebanon despite reported ceasefire

At least eight people, including two children and a Lebanese soldier, were killed in Israeli strikes on Saturday, shortly after a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was reported to have taken effect. The attacks hit multiple towns and villages across southern Lebanon.
At least eight people, including two children and a Lebanese soldier, were killed in a new wave of Israeli strikes in Lebanon on Saturday despite a reported ceasefire. Two children and their parents were killed in an Israeli strike on the town of Barish in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported. In Arabsalim, one person was killed and seven others remain missing under the rubble following a two-wave Israeli airstrike.
Widespread attacks
In Nabatieh governorate, one person was killed in a strike targeting a motorcycle, and another in a separate strike in the same town. Israeli warplanes also targeted the towns of Upper Nabatieh, Nmeiriyeh, Choukin, Habboosh, Kfarjouz, Zibdin, Sajd, and Mahmoudiyeh, while artillery shelled areas around Nabatieh city. The Lebanese army said one of its soldiers was killed while travelling on the Kfar Rumman–Nabatieh road, adding that “the brutal Israeli attacks on Lebanon continue” across the south and the Beqaa.
Ceasefire claims
The attacks came after Israel’s Channel 12 quoted an unnamed official confirming a ceasefire had begun at 4 pm local time Friday. A senior US official also confirmed the ceasefire to Anadolu, but Hezbollah has not yet commented. Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed over 3,980 people and displaced more than 1 million in Lebanon.
