Former U.S. President Barack Obama divulged the details of his visit April 2009 visit to Istanbul, the now-60-year-old Democratic leader's first overseas trip, during a global virtual summit on Wednesday.
"I visited Istanbul on my first trip abroad as president, and it was wonderful. It [Turkey] is an extraordinary country with extraordinary people.," Obama told participants of the “Reshape Virtual Summit 2021.”
“Perhaps the most meaningful thing I did in Istanbul was meeting incredible young people,” he said.
The 44th U.S. president also stressed that visiting Istanbul's iconic Blue Mosque, also known as the Sultanahmet Mosque, was an “enormous” experience for him.
"The Blue Mosque is one of the world’s special historical sites that astonishes you, connects you between the past, the present, and the future,” he added.
He also shared his opinions on technology literacy, recommending the younger generation to produce, shape, and empower themselves with technology and avoid consumption alone.
