Diplomatic momentum
The two ministers expressed hope that ongoing engagement between the US and Iran would yield an early and constructive outcome, according to a statement from Islamabad. They agreed to maintain close contact and continue consultations on issues of mutual interest.
Islamabad’s mediation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that Washington and Tehran have reached an agreement on the “final text” of a pact to end the war. Pakistan has mediated between the two nations since brokering a ceasefire on April 8 to halt hostilities that began on February 28.
US position
US President Donald Trump said Thursday that he had canceled imminent airstrikes on Iran, stating that an agreement was nearly complete. Reports later indicated that Vice President JD Vance may travel to Europe to sign the potential deal with Iranian officials.
