Iran FM says Islamabad Memorandum with US ‘never closer’

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that the proposed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between Tehran and Washington is closer than ever to finalization, urging media outlets to refrain from speculation regarding the pending agreement's contents while negotiations continue.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Friday that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between Tehran and Washington has reached its most advanced stage yet, declaring that the agreement "has never been closer" to completion. The senior diplomat took to the US social media platform X to update followers on the progress of the delicate negotiations.
Araghchi urged journalists and media organizations to avoid speculating on the contents of the pending agreement while discussions continue. "Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content," he wrote on Friday, underscoring the sensitivity of the ongoing diplomatic process.
Commitment to transparency
The foreign minister pledged that his government would maintain a transparent approach throughout the final stages of the negotiation process. "In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course," Araghchi added, signaling that an official announcement would follow once terms are finalized.
The Islamabad Memorandum represents a rare diplomatic channel between the Islamic Republic and the United States, which have maintained no formal diplomatic relations for decades. Negotiations have intensified in recent weeks amid broader regional efforts to de-escalate tensions across the Middle East.
