Israel strikes southern Lebanon towns despite US-mediated truce

The Israeli military launched fresh airstrikes and artillery attacks on several towns in southern Lebanon on Friday morning, violating a US-mediated ceasefire that was extended until early July amid reports that Washington and Tehran are nearing a deal to end the wider conflict.
The Israeli army targeted southern Lebanese towns with airstrikes and artillery fire on Friday, violating a US-mediated truce announced on April 17 and hitting Nabatieh, Marjayoun and Tyre districts, according to the state-run National News Agency.
Strikes hit southern districts
A drone struck the town of Jibshit in the Nabatieh district, while warplanes hit the Arid Debbin area in Marjayoun, NNA reported. The army also detonated explosives in the plain of Khiam and shelled the outskirts of Buyout al-Sayyad in Tyre, as drones flew low over Baysariyeh in Sidon.
Ceasefire violations mount
The offensive continues despite the ceasefire agreement extended until early July. The death toll from Israel’s attacks on Lebanon since March 2 has reached at least 3,711 killed and 11,483 wounded, according to health authorities.
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Washington and Tehran are close to finalizing an agreement to end the conflict. Iran has maintained that any deal requires an end to fighting on all fronts, including Lebanon.
