Foreign ministers from Türkiye and 11 other countries issued a statement condemning Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military base as an "extreme escalation," warning that continued violations of Syrian sovereignty risk further destabilizing the region and undermining international law.

Foreign ministers from Türkiye and 11 other nations on Friday issued a strong condemnation of Israeli airstrikes that targeted the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in northwestern Syria earlier this week, characterizing the assault as an "extreme escalation" and a clear violation of Syrian sovereignty.

In a joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Algeria, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Somalia, the group declared that the strikes represented "a flagrant violation of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political unity" of the Syrian state. The ministers expressed deep concern regarding the continued targeting and degradation of Syrian territory and critical infrastructure, noting that such actions risk undermining ongoing efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions and address the humanitarian consequences of years of conflict.

Warnings over regional stability

They also cautioned that continued Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity risk further escalating tensions throughout the region. Such actions undermine peace and stability while eroding respect for international law and the principles of the UN Charter, they added.

Call for international action

The ministers called upon the international community to adopt a "firm, clear and principled position" against continued attacks on Syrian territory and to take concrete steps consistent with international law and the UN Charter to end the violations. They urged full respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas, stating that such measures are necessary to prevent further escalation.
