Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and broader regional developments with his counterparts from Qatar and Jordan during separate phone calls on Wednesday, according to diplomatic sources, as Türkiye steps up efforts to coordinate an international response.

Phone Diplomacy

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate telephone conversations with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday to discuss the worsening crisis in Gaza and related regional security matters, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

The talks focused primarily on recent developments in the Palestinian territory and their implications for regional stability, the sources said. Fidan emphasized Ankara's commitment to coordinating with regional partners to address the humanitarian catastrophe and pursue a sustainable ceasefire, they added.

Regional Mediation Context

The conversations come amid renewed international efforts to broker a truce in Gaza, where the death toll continues to mount nearly a year after hostilities began. Doha and Amman have both played prominent mediation roles in previous rounds of negotiations between Israel and Hamas, with Qatar serving as a key interlocutor for the Palestinian group.

Türkiye has maintained consistent diplomatic engagement with both Gulf and Arab states throughout the conflict, positioning itself as a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights while seeking to expand its influence as a regional mediator. Ankara recently hosted several high-level meetings with Hamas officials and Palestinian Authority representatives to discuss post-war scenarios.
