Urgent curfews in Iran, Kuwait as US attack threat nears

US President Donald Trump’s threat to destroy ‘an entire civilization’ has prompted Iran and Kuwait to issue overnight curfew warnings. Citizens are urged to stay indoors from midnight to 6 AM as a potential American strike looms. Türkiye closely watches the escalating tensions in its neighborhood.
The conflict between Washington and Tehran, which began on February 28 with joint US-Israeli attacks against Iran, has now entered its 39th day with tensions soaring to unprecedented levels. US President Donald Trump took to social media to announce a specific deadline, stating that Tuesday at 8 PM US Eastern Time — equivalent to Wednesday, April 8, at 03:00 in Türkiye — would mark a critical moment. Trump further warned: “Tonight a whole civilization will be destroyed and never brought back. I don’t want this to happen, but it probably will.” He added that if Iran agrees to a deal, the strikes would be called off, but no agreement has been reached.
Overnight curfews in Iran and Kuwait
In response to the looming threat, Iran’s Interior Ministry issued a public advisory urging citizens to stay home from midnight Tuesday until 6 AM Wednesday unless absolutely necessary. The statement read: “We request our citizens to remain indoors during this period.” Kuwait’s Interior Ministry followed suit, calling on residents and expatriates to avoid going outside between 00:00 and 06:00. The Kuwaiti ministry explained that the precautionary measure aims to protect public safety, enhance preventive security steps, and allow security forces to carry out their duties effectively.
Türkiye’s strategic concern
As a key regional power with direct borders to both Iran and Iraq, Türkiye is closely monitoring the developments. Ankara has long advocated for de-escalation and dialogue, warning that any military confrontation could spiral into a wider conflict affecting the entire neighborhood. Turkish officials fear that an attack on Iran could destabilize border regions, trigger new refugee flows, and disrupt energy security. The curfew orders issued by Tehran and Kuwait City underscore the seriousness of the imminent threat, with the region holding its breath as the deadline approaches.
