US forces seize Iranian ship after it defies Gulf blockade

US President Donald Trump announced that American naval forces intercepted and disabled the Iranian-flagged cargo vessel TOUSKA after it ignored warnings to stop in the Gulf of Oman. The USS Spruance blew a hole in the ship’s engine room, and US Marines now hold the vessel. Iran has not yet responded.
US President Donald Trump said Sunday that American naval forces have intercepted and taken custody of an Iranian-flagged cargo ship that attempted to violate the US naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman. The USS Spruance, a guided missile destroyer, stopped the TOUSKA—a vessel nearly 900 feet long, approaching the size of an aircraft carrier—after its crew ignored multiple orders to halt. “Our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Sanctions and cargo inspection
Trump added that the TOUSKA is already under US Treasury sanctions due to previous “illegal” activity, and that American forces are currently inspecting the vessel’s cargo. Tehran has yet to issue any official comment on the incident. The interception marks a significant escalation in the US military posture in the region.
