File PhotoThe United States military on Thursday targeted a strategic railway bridge in northern Iran that connects the Islamic Republic to China and Russia, marking the second consecutive day of renewed American strikes on Iranian territory following Washington's abandonment of a recent peace framework, according to Iranian state media.
American forces on Thursday struck the Ogtay Khan railway bridge in Iran's northeastern Golestan province, a vital link in the transit corridor connecting Tehran to China and Russia, Iranian media reported. The cruise missile attack hit the structure early Thursday morning, Fars News Agency said, adding that the crossing serves as a critical junction on the rail line running through Turkmenistan.
Strategic rail corridor targeted
Tehran suspended passenger rail services between the capital and Mashhad following the strike, with local residents describing the damage as part of a broader US-Israeli assault on transportation infrastructure. State railway officials dispatched repair crews to the site and arranged road transport for stranded travelers to reach Mashhad, according to Iranian authorities.
US Central Command stated that American forces conducted additional strikes to degrade Tehran's capacity to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The Ogtay Khan bridge carries strategic significance as a transit point connecting China, Turkmenistan and Iran, forming part of a broader network linking Beijing and Moscow to the Middle East.
Diplomatic breakthrough collapses
Tehran and Washington had reached a Pakistan-brokered framework agreement on June 17 intended to end their military conflict and establish a lasting peace. However, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared that the deal was "over," effectively triggering a new round of military confrontation.
