Ehsan Jahanian, deputy governor of Bushehr for political, security and social affairs, told the official IRNA news agency on Thursday that the perimeter of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was struck by projectiles during US attacks on the southwestern province. Jahanian said several locations across the southern region were targeted in the afternoon strikes, which came amid ongoing hostilities between Washington and Tehran.
Jahanian confirmed that the afternoon strikes hit multiple strategic and civilian locations. "The perimeter of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, the Choghadak military base and a fishing pier in the south of the province were among the sites targeted this afternoon," he said, adding that another US attack earlier Thursday had targeted a pier in Asaluyeh and set local fishing boats ablaze.
No immediate casualties reported
No casualties were immediately reported from the strikes, according to IRNA. The targeting of the nuclear facility perimeter marks an escalation in the geographic scope of US military operations in southwestern Iran, where the Bushehr plant serves as Iran's only operating commercial nuclear power station.
Jahanian did not specify whether the projectiles caused structural damage to the plant's protective barriers. Local officials continued to assess the impact of the attacks on military and civilian sites across the province Thursday evening.
