Libya hails Türkiye as a key strategic and economic partner

A high-ranking Libyan official has reaffirmed the deep economic ties between Libya and Türkiye, describing the latter as a crucial strategic partner. Mustafa Al-Manea, Chairman of the Libyan Prime Minister's Initiatives and Strategic Projects committee, emphasized that Türkiye remains one of the most significant exporters to the Libyan market, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, energy, and development projects.

Infrastructure and Trade Expansion

Speaking at the Libya Energy and Economic Summit, Al-Manea noted that Turkish companies have both renewed existing contracts and secured new agreements for critical infrastructure work, including airports and roads. This collaboration was further solidified at the 22nd Türkiye-Libya Joint Economic Committee meeting in late January, where both nations agreed to develop economic partnerships and resolve longstanding bilateral issues. The partnership underscores Türkiye's growing economic diplomacy and its commitment to fostering stability and development in neighboring regions.

Turkish Firms Lead in Energy Tender

A major area of future cooperation is the energy sector. Al-Manea revealed that Turkish firms have submitted the most applications for Libya's recent oil and natural gas exploration tender, launched in November 2025 after a 17-year pause. The results are expected within weeks. Libya aims to boost its oil output to 1.6 million barrels per day in the short term, viewing Turkish expertise as well-suited for partnerships in both traditional and renewable energy projects.

Libya Rebrands as an Investment Destination

The Libyan official sought to reposition his country's image, declaring that Libya is no longer a high-risk market but is now open and conducive to investment. "We are proud of our cooperation with Türkiye," Al-Manea stated, highlighting the daily implementation of projects by Turkish contractors. This evolving partnership not only brings economic benefits to both nations but also reinforces Türkiye's strategic influence in the North African and Mediterranean geopolitical landscape.
