Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim begins official visit to Türkiye

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has commenced an official visit to Türkiye, arriving at Ankara's Esenboğa Airport on Tuesday for a three-day diplomatic engagement. The visit, taking place from January 6-8, comes at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and aims to deepen strategic and economic ties between the two nations.

Agenda and high-level meetings

The centerpiece of the visit will be the first meeting of the Türkiye-Malaysia High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, scheduled for Wednesday. According to Turkish Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, several bilateral agreements are expected to be signed during the meetings to strengthen the legal and contractual framework of the relationship. The leaders are also set to discuss a range of pressing regional and international issues.

A partnership of strategic and cultural significance

Türkiye and Malaysia, as two leading Muslim-majority democracies with growing economies, have sought to enhance cooperation in defense, trade, tourism, and education in recent years. Prime Minister Anwar was welcomed at the airport by Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler.
