Lebanese civil defense and health teams work at the scene where Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on a building, causing damage in the industrial area of al-Ghaziyah town, in Sidon, Lebanon, on March 8, 2026.

An Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Sir al-Gharbiyyeh in Lebanon's Nabatieh District has killed at least 10 people and wounded six others, according to Lebanese authorities. The attack is part of an escalating campaign that has claimed nearly 400 lives since Monday as the US-Israeli war against Iran expands to Lebanon.

Lebanese officials reported late Sunday that an Israeli airstrike on the southern town of Sir al-Gharbiyyeh in Nabatieh District resulted in at least 10 fatalities and six injuries. The Lebanon National News Agency confirmed the attack, which adds to a mounting death toll as Israeli military operations against Lebanese territory intensify.

Dozens killed across Lebanon in weekend bombardment

Sunday's strike was part of a broader wave of Israeli attacks that killed at least 49 people in the capital Beirut and southern regions, according to the Health Ministry and local media. The violence followed Saturday's bombardment, which claimed at least 55 lives, including children, across eastern and southern Lebanon. The consecutive days of heavy strikes mark a significant escalation in Israel's military campaign against its northern neighbor.

Regional conflict draws in Lebanon

The current escalation in Lebanon traces back to last Monday, when cross-border exchanges intensified following limited rocket fire by Hezbollah. The group's actions came in response to the broader regional crisis triggered by the US-Israeli joint attack on Iran that began Feb. 28, which has killed more than 1,200 people including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting American military assets, drawing multiple nations into the expanding conflict.

Civilian toll mounts as conflict widens

According to Lebanese figures, nearly 400 people have been killed, over 1,100 wounded, and thousands displaced since Monday as Israel and Hezbollah exchange increasingly intense cross-border fire. The civilian casualties, including children killed in Saturday's strikes, have raised international concern about the human cost of the widening war. With no diplomatic resolution in sight and both sides demonstrating willingness to escalate, Lebanese communities continue to bear the brunt of a conflict that shows no signs of abating.
