Hadi al-Amiri said regulating weapons is a purely Iraqi decision that will not trigger confrontation between the state and armed resistance factions, reaffirming his support for the prime minister's anti-corruption campaign and the integration of armed groups into state forces.

Hadi al-Amiri, leader of Iraq's Badr Organization, said Sunday that regulating weapons is a "purely Iraqi decision," ruling out any confrontation between Baghdad and armed factions while emphasizing the measure as essential for state sovereignty.

Guarantees of Stability

"I guarantee everyone that there will be absolutely no clash between the state and the resistance," Amiri said in remarks carried by the Iraqi News Agency. "Regulating weapons is a legitimate national and constitutional goal and a foundation for building a strong state capable of protecting Iraq and preserving its sovereignty," he added, framing the initiative as integral to national consolidation rather than factional disarmament.

Political Alignments

Amiri said the Coordination Framework, a coalition of Shiite parties, has agreed to support Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's anti-corruption campaign, marking a rare point of consensus among Iraq's often-fractured political blocs. The Badr Organization maintains significant influence within the Popular Mobilization Forces and has historically opposed attempts to dismantle armed factions operating outside regular military structures.

The PMF was established in 2014 following a religious edict by top cleric Ali al-Sistani to combat ISIS terrorists and was formally integrated into Iraq's armed forces two years later. In June, Iraqi military authorities established a dedicated committee to oversee the integration of unregulated weapons into state control, addressing one of Baghdad's most persistent security challenges.
