Bangladeshi Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus

Bangladeshi Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Türkiye's ongoing humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees. The appreciation came during a meeting with a Turkish parliamentary delegation that visited refugee camps in Cox's Bazar to observe Turkish aid efforts.

Bangladeshi Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has conveyed profound appreciation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Türkiye's consistent humanitarian support to Rohingya refugees sheltering in Bangladesh. During a Monday meeting in Dhaka with a five-member Turkish parliamentary delegation, Yunus specifically acknowledged both the president and first lady Emine Erdogan for their steadfast commitment to addressing one of the world's most pressing refugee crises.

Parliamentary Delegation and Camp Visits

The Turkish delegation, led by Mehmet Akif Yilmaz who chairs the Türkiye-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group, conducted field inspections at Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar before meeting with Bangladeshi officials. The lawmakers observed humanitarian operations conducted by Turkish institutions and non-governmental organizations, including medical services provided through a Turkish field hospital established to support refugee healthcare needs.

Rohingya Crisis Context

Bangladesh currently hosts approximately 1.3 million Rohingya refugees who fled military operations in Myanmar beginning in August 2017. Yunus characterized the Rohingya situation as "one of the most tragic humanitarian crises of our time," noting that the community suffers persecution specifically because of their Muslim identity and the revocation of their citizenship rights by Myanmar authorities.

Bilateral Cooperation Expansion

The discussions between Bangladeshi and Turkish officials explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations across multiple sectors including trade, investment, and humanitarian initiatives. Yunus emphasized his administration's focus on deepening the already close relationship with Türkiye, praising the continued solidarity demonstrated through development cooperation and humanitarian assistance programs.
