Wang Yi told US Ambassador David Perdue that China and the US should earnestly implement consensus reached by the two heads of state and remove disruptions hindering high-level exchanges, as the two sides prepare for President Xi Jinping's reciprocal visit to Washington during next month's UN General Assembly.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged Washington on Wednesday to clear obstacles hindering high-level bilateral exchanges during a meeting with US Ambassador David Perdue in Beijing. Wang said Beijing and Washington "should earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and remove disruptions and overcome obstacles to high-level exchanges between the two countries," Xinhua news agency reported. The remarks came as both nations prepared for upcoming diplomatic engagements.

US Response

Perdue said the two sides held "productive discussions" on "preparations for President Xi's reciprocal visit to Washington," according to a brief statement from the embassy. The ambassador later wrote on social media platform X that both countries are "Working together to achieve a constructive relationship of strategic stability with fairness and reciprocity," as diplomatic teams worked to finalize arrangements for the presidential summit.

Upcoming Summit

Xi is expected to travel to Washington next month while world leaders gather in New York for the UN General Assembly session, though specific dates have not been announced. The visit follows US President Donald Trump's state visit to China in May, continuing a series of high-level engagements aimed at managing bilateral ties between the competing powers.
