Hamas said on Sunday that its high-level delegation is holding talks in Cairo to brief Egyptian mediators on Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire and ensure Tel Aviv's adherence to the agreed roadmap, as the Palestinian group seeks to consolidate the fragile truce amid ongoing deadly attacks.

Delegation in Cairo

A high-level Hamas delegation headed by the group's chief Khalil al-Hayya arrived in Cairo on Sunday to hold talks with Egyptian officials on efforts to consolidate the Gaza ceasefire, according to Palestinian sources. The Palestinian group said the discussions aim to brief mediators on Israeli violations and ensure Tel Aviv's adherence to the roadmap agreed upon with the Board of Peace.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said in a statement that "the meetings with our brothers in Egypt come within the framework of the movement's continued communication and diplomatic efforts with mediators." He added that these contacts aim to "inform them of the occupation's violations and ensure the occupation's adherence to the roadmap agreed upon with the Board of Peace."

Ceasefire violations

The talks come despite a truce that has remained in place since October 2025, though the Israeli army has continued its attacks in the Palestinian enclave. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, at least 1,260 Palestinians have been killed and over 4,100 others injured since the ceasefire took effect.

War context

The Israeli army launched its deadly offensive in the Gaza Strip in October 2023 following Hamas's Oct. 7 attack. The war has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 174,000 others, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
