The Israeli military said on Sunday that it killed Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior commander in Hezbollah's "Badder Unit," during a strike on the Ansar municipality in southern Lebanon, as cross-border violence persists despite a framework agreement calling for gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Senior commander killed in Ansar strike

The Israeli army announced on Sunday that its forces had killed Abu Hassan Alaa — described as "a senior commander in Hezbollah's 'Badder Unit'" — in a strike on a main headquarters in the Ansar municipality in southern Lebanon. The military said on the social media platform X that the attack came in response to group activity against Israeli forces "in the Security Zone," though Hezbollah has not immediately commented on the claim.

Border violence continues

The announcement follows a separate incident on Saturday in which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said three Israeli soldiers were seriously wounded in an attack near the border that it attributed to Hezbollah. Independent verification of either claim remains pending as restrictions on press access to the conflict zone continue.

Offensive defies withdrawal deal

Israel has stepped up military strikes across Lebanon in recent weeks despite a Beirut-Tel Aviv framework agreement mandating a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory alongside sustained negotiations. The offensive that began on March 2 has killed at least 4,335 people, wounded 12,277, and displaced over 1 million, according to Lebanese authorities.
