Lebanon's Hezbollah launched approximately 100 rockets toward northern Israel Wednesday evening, triggering air-raid sirens across multiple cities including Haifa, Acre, and Tel Aviv. The Iranian-backed group announced the operation as "Al-Asf Al-Ma'koul" (The Devouring Storm), while Israeli forces conducted simultaneous strikes on rocket launch sites in Lebanon.

Hezbollah fighters unleashed a massive rocket barrage of approximately 100 projectiles from Lebanon toward northern Israel Wednesday evening, marking one of the most significant escalations since cross-border hostilities intensified. Israel's public broadcaster KAN reported that air-raid sirens sounded across multiple areas including Haifa, Acre, the Krayot region, and several towns in northern Israel following the attack.

Rockets reach central Israel

The Israeli military confirmed that sirens were activated in the Gush Dan metropolitan area, as well as Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and the coastal plain in central Israel, indicating the rockets' range extended deep into Israeli territory. The army stated that alarms were triggered after rockets were detected being launched simultaneously from Lebanon and Iran, suggesting coordinated attacks from multiple fronts. Channel 12 reported that one rocket was intercepted over central Israel, while videos circulating on Telegram showed projectiles striking areas in northern Israel directly.

Hezbollah announces operation

Hezbollah formally announced the launch of "Operation Al-Asf Al-Ma'koul" (The Devouring Storm), framing the attack as retaliation for Israeli strikes on Lebanon and the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US-Israeli strike. The Iran-allied group began attacking Israeli military sites on March 2, triggering a full-scale Israeli military campaign that has included airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs and areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, followed by a limited ground incursion beginning March 3.

Heavy toll on Lebanon

According to Lebanon's Health Minister Rakan Nasser El Din, the Israeli attacks have resulted in 634 deaths, including 91 children, and 1,586 injuries. The rocket barrage and Israeli counterstrikes represent a dramatic escalation of the conflict that began with the US-Israeli offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, which has killed more than 1,300 people including former Supreme Leader Khamenei. With both sides demonstrating willingness to escalate, the humanitarian toll continues to mount and fears of broader regional war intensify.
