Iran says US responsible for implementing deal, urges end to Lebanon attacks

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told regional counterparts on Monday that Washington bears responsibility for implementing the Pakistan-mediated agreement with Tehran, urging an immediate halt to Israeli military operations in Lebanon as part of a broader push for regional stability.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday told senior diplomats from Iraq, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia that the United States bears responsibility for implementing the Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding with Tehran, while demanding an immediate end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
Regional diplomatic push
During separate phone calls with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Araghchi emphasized that Washington must take concrete steps to implement the draft agreement, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA. The top diplomats also underscored the importance of maintaining sustained diplomatic efforts to achieve stability and security across the Middle East, the outlet reported.
Agreement framework
The diplomatic outreach came hours after US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that a peace agreement with Iran had been finalized, declaring an end to hostilities across all theaters including Lebanon. The proposed deal encompasses the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — a vital energy chokepoint — and the termination of a US naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Araghchi's remarks signal Tehran's expectation that Washington will move beyond verbal commitments to concrete actions, particularly regarding the cessation of Israeli military activities in Lebanon. The agreement marks a potential turning point following months of indirect negotiations mediated by Islamabad.
