IRGC targets US Marine base in Jordan in retaliatory strike

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Wednesday that it had fired ballistic missiles at “Camp Titin” — a US Marine installation in Jordan — describing the operation as direct retaliation for recent American military action. The elite force claimed that numerous American soldiers were killed in the assault on the base, though independent verification of casualties was not immediately available.

US strikes on Iranian targets

The missile launch came after US Central Command confirmed on Monday that it had conducted attacks against IRGC targets across Iran. Following that announcement, explosions were reported on Qeshm Island and in the coastal cities of Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar, and Konarak, according to Iranian media outlets. State television also reported that Jiroft Airport in Kerman Province had come under fire.

Civilian casualties in Hormozgan

Ahmad Nafisi, the deputy governor of Hormozgan Province, stated that initial assessments indicated at least four people were killed and 50 others injured when a residence in Sirik was struck. The IRGC asserted that the targeted building had been hosting a wedding ceremony at the time of the American attack. The Pentagon has not publicly commented on the specific circumstances of the Sirik strike.

Escalating tensions

The exchanges mark a significant expansion of hostilities between Washington and Tehran, with direct military confrontations now reaching Jordanian territory. CENTCOM’s initial strikes on Monday represented the latest phase in a conflict that has drawn in multiple regional actors since late February.
