Israel closes airspace after intercepting missile from Yemen

Israeli authorities said they temporarily closed the country's airspace on Monday after intercepting a missile launched from Yemen, with the incident triggering sirens across the Tel Aviv area amid heightened regional tensions following overnight exchanges with Iran.
Israel's civil aviation authority on Monday temporarily closed the country's airspace after the military intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen, authorities said, as regional tensions spiked following overnight exchanges of fire between Israel and Iran.
Air raid sirens across Tel Aviv
The Israeli military said it intercepted the projectile after warning sirens activated across the greater Tel Aviv area and parts of central and southern Israel. The Home Front Command had issued alerts upon detecting the launch from Yemen, according to Israeli media. Channel 12 reported that authorities ordered the temporary airspace closure shortly after the interception.
Regional escalation
The missile launch came amid heightened tensions following a series of overnight exchanges between Israel and Iran. Tehran launched several missile barrages toward northern Israel late Sunday after an Israeli airstrike hit Beirut's southern suburbs. Israel subsequently conducted strikes on western and central Iran, with explosions reported in Tehran, Isfahan and Tabriz.
