Malaysia to take Israel to ICJ over Gaza flotilla abuses

Malaysia is preparing to initiate proceedings against Israel at the International Court of Justice over the alleged kidnapping and torture of activists from the Gaza‑bound Global Sumud Flotilla. A Malaysian official said legal action will follow once lawyers complete gathering evidence.
Malaysia is prepared to bring Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the alleged abduction and mistreatment of activists from the Gaza‑bound Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla, local media reported Monday. Amirudin Shari, chief minister of the state of Selangor, told a homecoming ceremony at Kuala Lumpur International Airport that Kuala Lumpur will initiate proceedings once lawyers complete collecting information and supporting evidence.
‘We will not remain silent’
“We will not remain silent, we will not stop. While the legal team gathers all documentation on violations of international law, they (flotilla participants) were kidnapped more than once, they were tortured,” Amirudin said. The flotilla, carrying over 400 international activists seeking to break Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza, was attacked and detained by Israeli forces in international waters last week. The mission was organised in part from Türkiye, where the boats departed from Marmaris.
Diplomatic pressure and future action
Amirudin said Malaysia will continue diplomatic pressure and demand the “full liberation” of Gaza. Plans include hosting international conferences related to Palestine in Malaysia to strengthen advocacy, with a future “Sumud 3.0” mission already envisaged.
