Oil tanker disabled off Oman after projectile strike: UKMTO

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported on Monday that an oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile off the coast of Oman. The attack caused damage to the engine room and disabled the vessel approximately nine nautical miles northeast of Ash Shishah.

Vessel disabled in projectile attack

According to the maritime authority, the vessel's master reported the ship was hit by an unidentified munition. "The Master of an oil tanker reports the vessel has been struck by an unknown projectile causing damage to the engine room and disabling the vessel," UKMTO said. The exact nature of the projectile remained unclear as officials began their assessment.

Maritime authorities probe incident

All crew members were confirmed unharmed following the incident, the operations center stated, though the environmental impact of the attack had not been determined. Authorities have launched an investigation into the origin of the projectile, with maritime security officials monitoring the situation as damage assessments continue in the Arabian Sea.
