Netanyahu convenes Security Cabinet amid renewed Iran strikes

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene Israel's Security Cabinet on Monday morning following renewed exchanges of fire with Iran, as officials in Tehran reported Israeli strikes damaged a petrochemical complex and missile alerts sounded across central and southern Israel amid diplomatic efforts to salvage a stalled ceasefire.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday will convene his Security Cabinet at 11am local time (0800GMT) following renewed military exchanges with Iran, according to The Times of Israel. The meeting brings together key ministers hours after Israeli aircraft targeted an industrial facility in southwestern Iran and Iranian missiles triggered air raid sirens across Israeli population centers.
Israeli warplanes struck a petrochemical facility in Mahshahr early Monday, damaging portions of the industrial compound, Iranian officials said. Sirens sounded in multiple cities across central and southern Israel as Tehran launched missile barrages toward the Jewish state, marking the latest escalation in a conflict that has destabilized the region since late February.
Months-long conflict
The United States and Israel initiated coordinated airstrikes against Iranian targets in late February, prompting retaliatory attacks by Tehran against Israel and other regional states hosting American military assets. A temporary ceasefire took effect on April 8 following intensive diplomatic efforts, but negotiations subsequently stalled over implementation disputes and competing regional demands.
More than two months of hostilities have killed thousands across the region, with previous rounds of talks failing to secure a lasting truce between the longtime adversaries. Monday's cabinet session is expected to assess Israel's next military moves as diplomatic channels remain frozen.
