Trump: Iran has agreed to 'just about everything we need'

Trump told CNBC that Iranian negotiators have accepted nearly all American demands during ongoing talks, adding that Washington seeks only to prevent nuclear weapons acquisition rather than pursue regime change, even as he defended recent military strikes against the Islamic Republic.
US President Donald Trump said Thursday that Iran has accepted nearly all American demands in ongoing nuclear negotiations, telling a business network that Washington seeks only to prevent atomic weapons acquisition rather than pursue regime change in Tehran. "We're negotiating ...I think they've agreed to just about everything we need," Trump said in an interview with CNBC.
He reiterated that the United States seeks only to block Iran's path to a nuclear bomb. "We're not looking for regime change. I'm looking for something very simple: they cannot have a nuclear weapon," the president added.
Military operations defended
Trump defended recent US military strikes against Iran, asserting that the Islamic Republic had been "totally defeated militarily" following American operations. "I've defeated them militarily. They're totally defeated militarily," he said, adding that Washington could eliminate Tehran's remaining missile stockpiles if necessary.
The president cited last week's strikes targeting Iranian facilities as retaliation for a drone attack on a commercial vessel. "They have some missiles left, we could wipe them out too, and I hit them three times last week very hard, because they sent a drone into a ship," Trump said.
Talks to resume after mourning period
The next round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran will convene following funeral ceremonies for Iran's former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to Qatari and Pakistani mediators. Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli strikes on February 28, with memorial services scheduled to run from July 4 through July 9. The mediators indicated talks would resume at the earliest possible time after the mourning period concludes.
